Adventure Bay Retreat (ABR) is committed to building a sustainable business through the adoption of sound environmental practices, sourcing local products and services, and responsible environmental management of the property. This policy is applicable to all employees, contractors, volunteers and other persons who may conduct work for ABR.


ABR owners and management aim to:

  • Develop sustainable and environmental practices within the day to day operations of ABR
  • Source locally made products and services for the operation of ABR
  • Continue to work with the local tourism operators and community of Bruny Island to the advantage of the destination
  • Continue to rehabilitate the property to enhance the existing threatened species habitat


The Owner/Manager is responsible for achieving sustainability goals by:

  • Ensuring sustainability principles and practices are employed wherever possible
  • Using energy efficient lighting
  • Encouraging the use of bicycles (provided on site)
  • Maintaining solar hot water and heating systems
  • Utilising and expanding rain water storage
  • Minimising waste and use of recycling
  • Identifying and engaging local suppliers where possible
  • Fostering strong relationships with local and regional tourism organisations
  • Continuing the rehabilitation of the property, with particular focus on the rehabilitation of habitat for threatened species, especially Bligh Creek
  • Monitoring our carbon footprint and continually seeking ways to improve on this
  • Communicating this policy to clients and staff

Employees, contractors and volunteers are responsible for:

  • Familiarising themselves with the sustainability policy, practices and procedures
  • Ensuring that sustainability and environmental practices are implemented
  • Reporting any diversion from the sustainability policy or practices
  • Complying with any reasonable directions given by management that relates to the sustainability of ABR

This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis.
